On Feb.11, I placed a backorder order with SeeedStudios for the Jetson Orin Nano Super dev kit. I’ve logged in there daily to check to see if any change. Today, Saturday, Feb.22 I got an email from SeeedStudio saying:
[The reComputer J3011] is equipped with the same NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 8GB production module. You can perform a self - [upgrade to Jetpack 6.2]. Once upgraded, you’ll instantly experience a significant boost in computing power, with the performance leaping from 40 Tops to 67 Tops, offering capabilities comparable to those of the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit.
The alternative SeeedStudio proposes is $599 before shipping & fees.
Truth be told, I’d be willing to pay $599 from a reputable source, which I no longer consider SeeedStudio to be. If nvidia will sell me one for $599 I will pay, but not to a scalper.
Separately, there are plenty of scalpers on eBay selling dev kits at 100% markup or more, also shipping from China.
This is my first time buying a dev kit from nvidia.
In all candor, this is making me question my wisdom in leaning into the world of nvidia as the platform in which I’m considering investing at least the next few years of my professional life.
This ain’t my first rodeo. This is starting to smell like vaporware.
I am NOT asking anyone to walk on water.
The only thing I ask of any vendor is that if you make claims and offers that you keep your word. I do not think that is unreasonable.
