I have the official NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit purchased from Sparkfun.com. I updated the QSPI bootloader and I use the latest JetPack 6.0 production release via the SD card image approach. I’m interested in more RAM. Is it possible to swap in an Orin NX 16GB card on the Orin Nano Developer Kit carrier board? Or, are there plans to produce an Orin Nano card with 16GB?
Orin Nano devkit can work with Orin NX and Orin Nano.
Just want to clarify. My Orin Nano Dev Kit has the latest JetPack 6.0 via an SD card (I am NOT using an NVMe SSD). All is functioning normally and I’m compiling various C/C++ projects. If I swap out the Orin Nano module for an Orin NX module, will the board continue to function properly with the existing JetPack 6.0 on the SD card? Or will the module difference cause serious incompatibility problems?
I don’t know how is “serious” to you.
It will not be “serious incompatibility problem”. But your Orin NX module may not be able to boot with that sdcard.
I consider not being able to boot a serious problem.
Is there an SDCARD image specifically for the Orin NX? What are the steps I need to take in order replace my Orin Nano module with an Orin NX on my Orin Nano developer kit carrier board?
It is not about sdcard image existence.
There is no sdcard slot supported on Orin NX at all.
In case you didn’t notice, the sdcard slot of your Orin Nano is on the module. Not the carrier board.
I don’t own an Orin NX module yet, so I did not realize it’s designed without an sdcard slot. That’s a bummer. What interests me about the NX is the 16GB of RAM. I’m just trying to understand what it takes to use it with my Orin Nano developer kit before I buy it (very expensive).
How about this: if a setup my developer kit with an NVMe SSD with the latest Jetpack, can I then interchange the Nano and NX modules? Will it boot successfully and will I be able to run C++ programs compiled on the Nano?
If you flash the QSPI of the Orin NX on the board only but not reflash the nvme, then theoretically it is possible to do that.
