Isaac Sim 5.0 – SimReady asset materials showing solid red even though textures exist

I downloaded the SimReady Furniture & Misc Assets Pack from the link below, extracted it, and opened the file
Assets/simready_content/common_assets/props/antiquelvasesmall/antiquelvasesmall.usd in Isaac Sim 5.0.
However, all of the materials are rendered in solid red.

I checked the texture file paths in the Stage’s Material and they were pointing to valid locations, and I also confirmed that the actual texture files are present.

What could be causing this issue?

@rkdfuf2wkd i am just another user, and can you confirm if the desire is to be able to use these assets offline? because if you are indifferent or don’t really mind where these assets are sourced from, these SimReady assets can be found via the SimReady browser extension:

assuming you already have it enabled, you can navigate to it through Window > Browsers > SimReady Explorer. and, if it’s your first time opening the extension, you will want to wait for a few minutes to sync to AWS which is indicated by the OV green circle next to each category.

however, if you do intend to use it offline, can you go through your step-by-step to help the community to repro the issue?

Thank you for your kind and helpful reply.

I confirmed that it works fine in the SimReady Explorer of the Isaac Sim app. However, I want to use it offline, and as you can see in the video, when I drag and drop the downloaded SimReady USD file into the viewport, the material still shows up in red.

Thank you

can you try the following and see if the issue persists?

  1. close Isaac Sim

  2. navigate to where you unpacked the assets on your local drive (in your case, C:/Users/kang/Downloads/SimReady_Furniture_Misc_01_NVD@10010/)

  3. navigate to Assets > Materials subfolder

  4. open SimPBR.mdl via any text editor and edit Ln 28 and 29 to remove the .:: and save the file

    image

  5. then, open SimPBR_Model.mdl and edit Ln 27 to remove the .:: as well and save the file

    image

  6. restart Isaac Sim

  7. navigate to the asset via Content browser

  8. load .../Assets/simready_content/common_assets/props/antiquelvase/antiquelvase_inst_base.usd

  9. see if the model is now rendering correcting in the viewport

You’re the best.

After applying the changes you suggested, the material loads correctly.

By the way, is there any official documentation you referenced to solve this issue?

Thank you

i didn’t actually reference any documentation that isn’t already out there.

for this specific issue, i was able to reproduce the problem as reported. so, I used the collect feature to save out a version of an asset from the SimReady browser that we know bahaves correctly. from there, i compared the MDL files along with other potential culprits based on my experience to investigate the discrepancies in code.

as MDL and other aspects of the Omniverse ecosystem iterate through different versions and bugfixes, it’s possible some old codes could be deprecated. keeping an eye out for reports of issue from user like you and i would hopefully lead to either more comprehensive documentation or inform the devs to create a more error-proof experience for the user base.
