Issue Connecting Camera via CSI

Hello!
I’m new to the domain and just setup my nano B01.

Everything worked great until i connected a camera.
Without camera connected to a CSI port:
HDMI monitor - fine
USB keyboard/mouse - fine
Wifi - fine

I have 2 waveshare IMX219-160 cams and whenever i connect one of them to the board,
keyboard and mouse do not work
screen resolution changed
wifi does not work

I’ve seen that dmesg output is most likely required I’ve attached it. Luckily that worked via screen command.

I have no idea, what exactly to look for in the logs.
Would be great to get a hint for the cause.
Are both cams broken? Is the Nano broken?

Hi,

This looks like hardware problem. If you removing the CSI cam and all the other peripherals can work, then the reason should be something else.

From your log, it looks like when CSI cam is in use, the I2C channel that HDMI is using to read EDID, gets occupied. Thus, the “fallback” EDID is in use. Which is a hardcoded one we write in kernel driver. I believe the resolution you saw when error happened in 720P on the monitor.

Could you list out how many peripherals are in use on your boards? Could you check the /dev/i2c* and /sys/bus/i2c/devices/* with and without camera connected?

If you don’t know how to debug when monitor is gone, it is time to learn how to use uart console.

With camera connected to any CSI connector:

  • monitor is set to a wrong resolution, but shows everything
  • USB devices do not work (mouse/keyboard)
  • no WIFI
  • UART console (minicom) no output

To get around this, I connected via micro-usb and screen command.
The list output looks the same for me.
