Issues when running nvarguscamerasrc compiled code released in JetPack 4.4

Hi all,

Now that you released the code for Nvarguscamerasrc (JetPack 4.4) I wanted to compile and give it a try.

I downloaded the sources and followed the steps to compile the element natively on a TX2 JetPack 4.4 (instructions in README.txt).

I was able to compile the code and install the element correctly. I did a gst-inspect-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc and the element seems correct. But the issue is when I try to capture, here is the log:

I tested with the default binary in JetPack 4.4 installation and nvarguscamerasrc works as expected.

Hi,

Do you know which are the differences between the nvarguscamerasrc provided on JP 4.4 and the one from the sourcecode?

I am running into some issues when launching the nvarguscamerasrc compiled from the source-code and a custom sensor driver, The driver works correctly with the nvarguscamerasrc by default on JP 4.4 but it is failing with the compiled version.

I have tested that the ov5693 works with both versions (default and compiled), but the custom driver not.

In my first comment (above may 8) there is the output log for the compiled version and the issues that I am getting.

Any ideas about it?

Hi all,

Just as a follow up on this thread, I was able to reproduce the issue even with the ov5693 driver that is by default with the EVM kit.

For some reason the new binary from the nvarguscamerasrc code is not creating the isp files located at /var/nvidia/nvcam/settings/, (the default binary is able to create those files)

So if you replace nvarguscamerasrc that is by default in a fresh installation of JP 4.4 with the one compiled and remove the isp cache files, you are going to be able to see the issue:

Steps to reproduce the issue are:

  1. replace nvarguscamerasrc binary with the one compiled.
    sudo cp libgstnvarguscamerasrc.so /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/

  2. remove cache files:
    sudo rm /var/nvidia/nvcam/settings/nvcam_cache_*
    sudo rm /var/nvidia/nvcam/settings/serial_no_*

  3. try to capture with nvarguscamerasrc:
    gst-launch-1.0 nvarguscamerasrc sensor-id=0 ! fakesink silent=false -v

Do you have any ideas about what is causing the issue with nvarguscamerasrc compiled binary?

there should be empty ISP configurations settings with default JetPack release image,
as you can see from below, there should be only readme file included.

We are using Os08a10 sensor. It works very well using the nvarguscamerasrc default binary. but not with the one compiled from the source code.

With a fresh install that directory is empty, but if I run nvarguscamerasrc for the first time (using the default binary installed by JP), the cache files are being created but this does not happen with the one compiled.

At this point I see that the issue is caused by the binary from the source code. Something is different based on the one by default. I verified the sha1sum for both binaries and they are not the same.

Those are the isp files generated using the default nvarguscamerasrc element:

I compiled the nvarguscamerasrc plugin ( a0ac08661bbcdcdbc6ad4db7d9f05b180ed120bf /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstnvarguscamerasrc.so) and then I copied the binary into the path

/usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstnvarguscamerasrc.so

I also tried removing the isp files, copying the nvarguscamerasrc element and rebooting the system but I get the same issue.

I was wondering if the new nvarguscamerasrc element from code has something hardcoded to work only with the ov5693 isp settings. (the default nvarguscamerasrc binary works very well with the custom driver).

back to this issue, could you please have a try to remove the gstreamer cache and restart camera stream for verification.
for example,

$ rm ${HOME}/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/registry.aarch64.bin

I can repro with JetPack 4.4 and 4.5 with RidgeRun IMX477 drivers on Nano. Would appreciate help fixing it since it’s blocking my client’s development at the moment.

What’s odd is it happens on one Nano but not on another, even though the system image (custom) is identical. Screen resolution and some other details are different, but not much else.

The Argus source is heavily modified, but since it happens with unmodified source it would appear to be unrelated. I will post any updates here as we try to narrow down the cause.

Lastly, is the nvfnet source available somewhere public, cause that’d be helpful as well?
