I haven’t tested these functions and I doubt it is that but snd module are missing in the kernel I would say that this error has always been returned the same error if you call alsamixer or similar tools can’t access to device audio.

However, the sound works on the system, it is probably a problem of alsa/jack specific configuration?
This error is also returned when trying to access alsa midi, it seems that there is something wrong or that it was never tried for these purposes i.e retroarch midi
