Jetpack SDK Version becomes unavailable

I’m on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS and have a Jetson AGX Orin 64GB Devkit.
lsusb | grep -i nvidia
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0955:7023 NVIDIA Corp. APX

I have not installed an additional NVMe drive yet, so I’m trying to install onto the 64GB eMMC.

I’ve been trying to flash the drive and hitting errors. Now I am in a place where the SDK Manager software will say that my hardware is detected, but that none of the Jetpack SDK versions are supported. I’m trying to flash Jetpack 7.1.

I found that if I unplug and plug the Orin in, then the SDK Manager makes everything green including the SDK version. However it pops up the hardware selection dialog. Regardless of what option I pick, this causes the Jetpack SDK version picker to go from Green to nothing selected and all of the options say unsupported.

So I’m stuck between these two states. I’ve tried rebooting, repairing, unplugging, etc. Jetpack 7.1 is downloaded from an earlier attempt, but I can’t get past this odd state of “unsupported”.

Based on the provided context, it appears that you are experiencing issues with flashing the Jetson AGX Orin 64GB Devkit with Jetpack 5.1. The SDK Manager is detecting the hardware, but none of the Jetpack SDK versions are supported.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Verify the UEFI settings: Ensure that the UEFI settings are set to boot from the eMMC storage. You can access the UEFI settings by pressing the Esc key during boot-up. Select the eMMC storage as the boot device.
  2. Use the command-line flashing method: Instead of using the SDK Manager, try flashing the device using the command-line method. You can use the following command to flash the device:

$ sudo ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh -u <pkc_keyfile> [-v <sbk_keyfile>] --uefi-keys uefi_keys/uefi_keys.conf jetson-agx-orin-devkit internal

   Replace `<pkc_keyfile>` and `<sbk_keyfile>` with the actual file paths to your PKC and SBK key files, respectively.
3. **Check the PKC and SBK key files**: Ensure that the PKC and SBK key files are in the correct location and are not corrupted. You can try re-generating the key files or using a different set of key files.
4. **Try a different flashing method**: If the above steps do not work, you can try using a different flashing method, such as flashing the device using the `flash.sh` script:
   ```bash
$ sudo ./flash.sh -u <pkc_keyfile> [-v <sbk_keyfile>] jetson-agx-orin-devkit internal
Replace <pkc_keyfile> and <sbk_keyfile> with the actual file paths to your PKC and SBK key files, respectively.
5. Check the Jetpack version: Ensure that you are using the correct version of Jetpack. In your case, you are trying to install Jetpack 5.1. Make sure that you have downloaded the correct version of the Jetpack SDK.
Comparison with other Jetson modules:
  • The flashing process for the Jetson AGX Orin series is similar to that of the Jetson Orin NX series and the Orin Nano series. However, the Jetson AGX Orin series has an additional option to use eMMC as the rootfs storage.
  • The command-line flashing method is the same for all Jetson modules, but the specific options and key files may vary depending on the module.
In summary, you can try using the command-line flashing method, checking the UEFI settings, and verifying the PKC and SBK key files to resolve the issue. If none of these steps work, you may want to try a different flashing method or seek further assistance from NVIDIA support.
  1. Yes, it is set to boot from the eMMC storage
  2. Using sudo ./flash.sh jetson-agx-orin-devkit mmcblk0p1
    I see two errors:
    [ 0.2517 ] ERROR: might be timeout in USB write.
    and
    [ 0.0283 ] ERROR: failed to read rcm_state
    with the last line
    orin.txt (13.9 KB)
    cvm.bin does not exist
    I am using the new, original USB-C to USB-A cable from the Devkit box.
    1. I checked the Jetpack SDK version 7.1, which looks good and is compatible.
I’ve attached my full flash.sh logs.
I am using native Ubuntu USB. No VMs.
I have tried various USB-C to USB-C cables as well as multiple USB-C to USB-A cables.
I have tried various USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my Desktop PC.
Okay, after many tries, I unplugged the Orin and put it back into reset mode and this time… it worked! I was using an Apple USB-C to USB-C cable, but that is probably a coincidence and not important.
My advice: Un-plug power to the Jetson each time you try to flash.
This command worked for me: sudo ./flash.sh jetson-agx-orin-devkit mmcblk0p1
