Jetson AGX Orin: iwlwifi firmware crash loop (ADVANCED_SYSASSERT / Queue stuck) and gateway unreachable

Hello NVIDIA team,

We are seeing a persistent Wi-Fi failure on a Jetson AGX Orin system. The Wi-Fi link reports good signal strength and appears to be associated with the access point, but the Jetson cannot reliably ping the default gateway.

The kernel log indicates that the Intel iwlwifi firmware/driver is repeatedly becoming unresponsive, asserting, and requesting a hardware restart.

System information visible in the log

  • Platform: NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Developer Kit / Jetson
  • Kernel: 5.10.216-tegra #81
  • BIOS: 6.0-37391689 08/28/2024
  • Driver: iwlwifi with iwlmvm, mac80211, and cfg80211
  • PCI BDF: 0001:01:00.0
  • Loaded firmware: 59.601f3a66.0 cc-a0-59.ucode
  • Exact JetPack/L4T release: not yet confirmed
  • Wi-Fi module PCI ID/model: not yet confirmed

Symptoms

  • Wi-Fi signal strength is good.
  • The interface appears connected, but the default gateway becomes unreachable.
  • The problem repeats continuously rather than being a one-time disconnect.

In the attached log, during approximately 462 seconds, we counted:

  • 28 occurrences of Hardware restart was requested
  • 28 occurrences of ADVANCED_SYSASSERT
  • 28 occurrences of a stuck transmit/command queue
  • 27 firmware command timeouts

A typical failure cycle is:

There are also timeouts for STATISTICS_CMD. One scan request failed with:

iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: Error sending SCAN_REQ_UMAC: time out after 2000ms.
iwlwifi 0001:01:00.0: Scan failed! ret -110
WARNING: CPU: 4 ... at net/mac80211/scan.c:434 ieee80211_scan_completed ...

The log does not show PCIe AER errors or the device disappearing from PCIe. It also does not contain an explicit thermal shutdown message. Therefore, the temperature-command timeout seems more likely to be a consequence of the unresponsive firmware than proof of overheating.

Questions

  1. Is this a known issue with the Jetson 5.10.216-tegra iwlwifi/mac80211 stack and cc-a0-59.ucode?
  2. Which NVIDIA-supported kernel/driver and linux-firmware combination is recommended for this Wi-Fi device on Jetson AGX Orin?
  3. Is updating to a newer JetPack/L4T release recommended, or is there a supported driver/firmware update for this kernel branch?
  4. Are there known power-management, PCIe ASPM, Bluetooth coexistence, or scanning-related workarounds for this failure pattern?
  5. Which additional logs or iwlwifi debug parameters would be useful to identify the initial firmware failure?

The available dmesg.txt is attached. It begins in the middle of the first firmware dump, so we will also try to collect a complete boot log and the following information:
