Jetson Nano cannot power through barrel jack

We have two Jetson Nano boards in our lab that we wish to use for our research project. We need to power both these boards at 20 watts each so we need the barrel jack. The micro USB is working for both the boards and they are turning on through micro USB but its obviously limited to 10 watts. The barrel jack used to work before and I used it that way for 4-5 months but it has since stopped working on both the boards. I was using a 5V 5A adapter to power them. Help is appreciated, thank you.

Is it Orin Nano or Jetson nano? You filed in Orin nano forum.

I am sorry it’s a Jetson Nano, I will file it again in the Jetson Nano forum.

It is okay. Let me help move.

Is it NV devkit or custom board?

It’s a NV devkit. One is a A02 and the other is a B01.

Did you remember to remove/add the jumper when change the power source between usb/power barrel?

Yes, I did remember to do that, I even tried different jumpers to eliminate that possibility as well.

Does the power led still light up when you plug in the power barrel?

Nope, the led doesn’t light up with the power barrel and there is no output. With the micro USB however, it works fine. This is true for both the jetson nanos.

Do you have other barrel jack to test?

I did go to the hardware shop the other day and tried on a brand new barrel adapter on both the jetsons and it’s still the same. I was also using it with a lipo battery a few months back with a step-down transformer to convert the battery’s 11v to 5v and it worked perfectly at that time but even that is not working now.

I posted this same question on reddit and someone recommended soldering the power directly to the board as the barrel jack is known to be dodgy. Is this true?

You can use multi-meter to probe and check the power pad of barrel jack on board to confirm if power supply is correct. And yes, if the barrel jack is in loose contact, you can try soldering.
