Jetson Nano gets stuck on "using random host ethernet address", does not boot

Recently I’ve downgraded my Jetson Nano from Ubuntu 24.04 to Ubuntu 20.04. After that, some packages were corrupted, and I started repairing them one by one. However, at some point I had to reboot it, and now it is no longer able to boot anymore. Here’s a screenshot of the serial console output.

The system is installed in the Jetson’s internal memory.
Reflashing is impossible, since the microUSB port is damaged.
How can I fix this issue?

What’s weird is that I found a person whose Jetson outputs the exact same messages while booting:

However his Jetson boots successfully, mine doesn’t.
So it’s not even clear which error prevents my Jetson from booting.

That SW seems not from our JetPack/L4T SW, where do you get that SW?

The software is, indeed, L4T. It came with Ubuntu 18.04, and the previous user upgraded it to 20.04. Later I’ve upgraded Ubuntu to 24.04 (using do-release-upgrade), however after encountering issues with Docker I’ve downgraded it back to 20.04. I know 20.04 and later isn’t officially supported, however it worked mostly without issues until the downgrade.

Thanks, but I need to get it to boot first, to access the terminal. Or can I do it without booting?

Hi,

Please record the serial console log for us to review.

Hello. Yesterday I connected a display and was able to boot to terminal rather than GUI. Now the issue is that the ModemManager service file, the one that should be in usr/sbin, is missing and thus the service fails to start. So, Jetson fails to recognize wired or wireless Internet connections and install/repair any packages. How can I get the ModemManager file (the one that should be in usr/sbin)?

You could either follow David’s comment first or just reflash your board.

There won’t be any ModemManager that could get installed in such situation.
