Jetson Nano new memory (2025) modules show up as 2GB?

Hi, I recently got a new batch of Jetson Nano’s (module only, I have a custom carrier board) and quckly realized that something was wrong/different because when I tried to run them with my custom OS image, there were lots of kernel level errors.

I learned that there is an overlay (kernel patch) that you must apply to support new memory modules (PCN211181). I pulled the overlay from Jetson Linux R32.7.6 | NVIDIA Developer, it was straight forward to apply and it fixed the errors I was seeing. However, all of the modules are only showing 2GB of RAM and I’m pretty sure that I purchased the 4GB modules. Either way, this raised some questions for me:

  1. Out of curosity, why new memory modules at this time?
  2. Is there a way to tell from looking at the module itself if it is actually 2GB or 4GB?

Image of existing (working) 4GB jetson nanos.

Image of jetson nanos that are reporting 2GB of memory. These have the PCN211181 kernel patch applied.

Thank you!

Hi seerich-edge,

It seems you hit similar issue as 4GiB Jetson Nano with new DRAM memory chips boots as 2GiB - Jetson & Embedded Systems / Jetson Nano - NVIDIA Developer Forums.
Please confirm if you’ve applied the overlay correctly.

@KevinFFF, thank you for this information. Unfortunately, I returned the batch already because I thought they were defective. If/when I order more, I will give this a try.

Sure, thanks for your update.
