Jetson Orin Nano 8GB - Voltage drop on SYS_5V under load on custom carrier board

Hello,

While testing our carrier board by running CPU + GPU simultaneously we are getting max 13.7W only at super mode with voltage drop.

System info:

  • Module: Jetson Orin Nano 8GB (p3767-0003)
  • L4T: 36.5.0
  • JetPack: 6.2.2
  • Power mode: MAXN_SUPER

Issue:
Voltage drop on SYS_5V under heavy load:

  • Idle: 5.0V
  • Under full CPU+GPU load: 4.8-4.9V

Power readings under load:

  • VDD_CPU_GPU_CV: 7.3W
  • VDD_SOC: 2.3W
  • VDD_IN: 13.7W @ 4.9V

Questions:

  1. Is 4.9V under load acceptable for Orin Nano 8GB?
  2. What is minimum acceptable VDD_IN voltage?
  3. How to get 25W in jetson orin ?

Thank you

What is the max current your power supply can provide to VDD_IN? 13.7W@4.9V=2.8A so that is a little low to be dropping 100mV, if the nominal is at 5V (no/light load).

Note that the Jetson Orin Nano Series Module Data Sheet specifies VDD_IN Imax as 5A.

Yes, it falls in the 4.75 to 5.25V recommended operating voltage range.

4.75V.

I will check with my software colleagues about stress test(s) to reach ~25W.

Run the matrixMulCUBLAS for GPU stress test: Jetson/L4T/Jetson AI Stack - eLinux.org

I am using 8GB jetson orin nano can i achieve 25W by testing u suggested test?

Which power adapter are you using?
I would check that beforehand, just in case is broken or something like that.

Be aware that sometimes when ac adapter broke, output levels drop with charge…
I’ll measure directly from the DC barrel with the system powered on.

I am using 8GB orin nano so i am getting 14.8W @~15W can i get 25W?

Have you referred to what @ChrisB_NV suggested in Jetson Orin Nano 8GB - Voltage drop on SYS_5V under load on custom carrier board - #8 by ChrisB_NV to run matrixMulCUBLAS and check if it could achieve 25W?

i AM REACHING 14.8W using this tools

Have you run $ sudo jetson_clocks before running the test?

Nope i would try

I am getting 14.8W max. Becuase my custom board supports max 15W
