Jetson Orin Nano hardware not detected by SDK manager

I am a new user of the Jetson Orin nano development kit. I am not able to get the SDK manager detected the Jetson Orin nano hardware.

The steps I followed:

  1. I am using the Ubuntu 20_04 with Virtual box on windows
  2. I downloaded the relevant *.deb file for this ubuntu and installed it.
  3. As suggested in other discussion threads, I shortedthe pins FC REC and GND to enter recovery mode
  4. I connected the barell jack power supply, waited for many minutes
  5. Connected the board to my laptop through the USB the first time and USB-C the second time.
  6. Started the SDK manager

After all these steps repeated several times, still I don’t see the sdk manager detecting the hardware. I also checked in the terminal with the comand “lsusb”, yet there is no device with nvidia listed for it.

What am I doing wrong?

I understood that there are two ways to use the board, either by SDCard or by the sdk manager. I didn’t find a resource which explains how to SD Card, could anyone point me to where I can find such a resource as well.

Hi,

For installing SD card image, you need this.
If it does not work, abandon virtual machines and find a real Ubuntu PC instead.
We don’t support flashing with virtual machines.

Hi Dave, thank you for the response.
I have follow up questions regarding the same:

  1. For us to use SD card for the first time, the site mentions that we use QSPI bootloaders as part of JetPack 6. In this case, do we need to use the SDK manager to write to the SD card with the JetPack 6 or use the SSD (NVMe), for the first time, is this right?
If yes, in this case we don’t need the Etcher, but also write to the SD card (with customized packages) using the SDK manager as well?
  2. As of now there is only one SD card image that can be downloaded. How about using older versions of SD card images which already has QSPI bootloaders. Is there is link to the older SD card images.
  3. Even if NVIDIA doesn’t support flahsing with Virtual Machines, will the virtual machines be able to detect hardware atleast? I would like to know if the hardware I received from Arrow electronics is functioning in different methods or I should request for a replacement.

It’s not that complicated.

If the QSPI memory on the module has been flashed with bootloader stuff, which should be the case if it’s sold as a DevKit, then you only need the SD card image.
If it is not, then please use SDK Manager, and virtual machine does not work here.

However, for the first case in which you already have bootloader stuff there, if you are upgrading from JetPack 5 to JetPack 6, re-flashing QSPI is still required.
