Two issues are going on, one is online arbitrage sellers are peddling them and possibly authorized distributors are letting them go out the back door. When they are not authorized by nvidia and sell it as “NEW” they are outside the law on that. Selling “used” as new.
Something NVDIA might want to check on is if this really is NVIDIA selling the product. This is shown as the “NVIDIA Store” (https://www.amazon.com/stores/NVIDIAGeForce/page/289C8EF0-268A-469C-9593-D12B94C02FB4?ref_=ast_bln&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandLogo_sto), as if it is NVIDIA selling the product. It is hard to say if this is a “fake” retailer pretending to be NVIDIA, or it is really is NVIDIA.
If this really is an unsupported third party and not an official NVIDIA site (or NVIDIA partner), then warranty transfer would also be an issue for developer kits.
That is an issue that can be very costly.
If you look on ebay, 145 sellers have surfaced that are selling the orin nano as “NEW”. They just popped up recently when amazon ran out of stock at $499 price.
That is so many listings it does appear a distributor is moving them out the back door and price gouging. Hard to believe all of them are online arbitrage players. Nvidia can get them shut down over IP issues since all of them are advertising it as “NEW”, pretty sure they have in house legal that can swat flies.
NVIDIA does have official partners and retailers. I know Silicon Highway (or something like that) is one of the official resellers for non-USA. Perhaps someone at NVIDIA could offer a list or URL with a list of supported resellers?
Incidentally, selling a dev kit as a dev kit may not apply as reselling. This might apply mainly to products built with the dev kit inside of it rather than pure dev kits. However, it is the commercial module which is always transferring warranty without issue; carrier boards are of course supported by the manufacturer of the carrier board. The real question is what the rules are for dev kits.
