Hi,
I test this method to setup my Jetson Orin Nano 8GB developer kit but it doesn’t work.
- I think it’s not necessary to update my frameware because my version is 36.4.3-gcid-xxxxxxxxx
- I download the zip jetson-orin-nano-devkit-super-SD-image_JP6.2.1.zip
- Write the image to the microSD card (64Go), I used Balena.
- During the “Setup and First boot (but it’s not really the first boot)” step I can see the installation et setup (see screenshot) but after that the screen remains black and the Jetson reboot after about 5 minutes. So I don’t have any popup to create the account.
Do you have any idea?
Thx

I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot the issue with your Jetson Orin Nano 8GB developer kit.
Firstly, I’d like to clarify that the setup process you’re referring to is likely the one described in the NVIDIA Developer Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit Getting Started Guide. This guide provides instructions on how to set up the Jetson Orin Nano developer kit using the SD card image.
Since you’ve already downloaded the jetson-orin-nano-devkit-super-SD-image-JP6.2.1.zip file and written it to the microSD card using Balena, let’s go through some potential issues that might be causing the problem:
- Firmware version: You mentioned that your firmware version is
3643gcidxxxxxxxxx. While it’s possible that this version is compatible with the SD card image, it’s essential to ensure that the firmware is up-to-date. You can try updating the firmware using the NVIDIA SDK Manager or by following the instructions in the Getting Started Guide.
- SD card image: Verify that the SD card image was written correctly to the microSD card. You can try re-writing the image using Balena or another tool like
dd or Etcher.
- Boot process: The Jetson Orin Nano developer kit should boot from the microSD card. Ensure that the microSD card is properly seated and that the kit is set to boot from the SD card. You can try pressing the
RECOVERY button while powering on the kit to force it to boot from the SD card.
- Display output: Since you’re seeing the installation and setup process on the screen, it’s likely that the display output is working correctly. However, it’s possible that the display is not configured correctly or that there’s an issue with the display driver. You can try connecting the kit to a different display or using a different display cable.
- Account creation: The account creation process should appear after the initial setup process. If you’re not seeing this prompt, it’s possible that the setup process is not completing correctly or that there’s an issue with the user account creation process.
To troubleshoot further, you can try the following:
- Check the serial console output: Connect to the kit’s serial console using a USB-to-TTL serial cable and a terminal emulator like
minicom or PuTTY. This will allow you to see the boot process and any error messages that might be displayed.
- Check the system logs: Once you’ve gained access to the kit’s terminal, you can check the system logs to see if there are any error messages related to the setup process or account creation.
- Try a different SD card image: If you’re using a custom SD card image, try using the official NVIDIA SD card image to see if the issue persists.
If none of these troubleshooting steps resolve the issue, please provide more details about your setup and the error messages you’re seeing, and I’ll do my best to help you further.

Hi,
We’d like to confirm whether your storage is NVMe or an SD card. Your title mentioned “SSD card,” which is a bit confused.
We strongly recommend using SDK Manager to flash your Orin Nano. To install SDK Manager, please prepare a native Ubuntu environment (version 20.04 or later), rather than a virtual machine.
Thanks
It’s SD Card I fixed the title.
It’s ok. I used SDK Manager. thx
There is no update from you for a period, assuming this is not an issue anymore.
Hence, we are closing this topic. If need further support, please open a new one.
Thanks ~0910
Wait for your update of sdk manager method.
