KDE compositing crash on NVIDIA drivers 384.90+

KDE compositing crashes on latest NVIDIA drivers (version 384.90+). Just run any fullscreen game, Steam or VirtualBox in fullscreen mode and it will crash:

Fedora 26 with KDE Plasma 5 DE.
Linux kernel version: 4.13.8.
KWin version: 5.10.5.

KDE upstream bug: 382485 – OpenGL 2 compositing setup failed

Switch to Xrender in Kwin to see if that fixes it.
We probably got similar if not same issue have a look at;

Yes, switching to XRender fixes this problem, but XRender is a software compositing, which is very slow.

I am facing the same issues, but it seems Nvidia has 0 interest in getting that fixed ! No reply to each of this threads :(. It’s a shame, but my next gpu will be 100% a AMD one utilizing open source drivers.

This bug still very much happens on KDE 5.11.5 and nvidia 384.111. It almost happens completely randomly and I have to fully restart the system. I can’t believe Nvidia won’t fix this, this is their problem.
