KWin randomly restarts

Sometimes, while I’m simply navigating on my desktop (switching tabs, opening an app), or right after I switch to another activity or virtual desktop, KWin would freeze for few seconds then it’d restart. I’d get the notification, “Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset”.

  • Kubuntu 18.10
  • Zotac GTX 1060 6GB
    • nvidia-driver-415
  • Intel Core i5-6500
  • 2 1080p monitors

I posted this same problem on KDE’s bugtracking site, but they told me that it’s a driver bug.

I tried switching rendering backend between OpenGL 3.1 & 2.0 (currently on 3.1), enabled ForceCompositionPipeline & ForceFullCompositionPipeline (currently disabled), enabled & disabled various desktop effects (like the wiggle desktop and translucency)

I’m experiencing this issue on Kubuntu 21.04 with the latest drivers 460.73 BUT only upon wakeup, also tried different distros with KDE and they all had the same result.
