Launch index x must be bigger than y?

Back at dealing with launch indexes. For our applications these can vary a lot.

I was getting these generic launch errors, which seem to go away if launch index x > Y

Is that really the case?

Edit: Nope, turns out the sum of the launch index can’t be more than 1 billion (2^30)

You are correct: the total launch size for an OptiX launch is limited to 2^30 for performance reasons. Are you using a large launch for compute purposes, rather than rendering? Is this something you could use a CUDA launch for?

it was just confusing, but I can easily work around this, without any large impact on performance. And yes, it’s for some complex light calculations that don’t render.
