I am using an old HP Workstation Z-820 with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500, whose proprietary drivers are not supported by the latest Ubuntu kernels. I managed to get rid of screen glitching and tearing by utilizing the built-in
nouveau driver with deactivated hardware acceleration in
This of course requires the
Xserver to be running, which is not the case before dismissing the Ubuntu login screen, leading to login screen glitching, which can be handled but might be strange for other users of the Workstation.
I am curious if there is a way to start
Xserver before the login screen appears. Also, since the
nouveau driver just mimics the actual graphics driver, the card is running at maximum fan speed. Is there an option for
xorg.conf that controls this parameter?
Thanks in advance and best regards!
