Hi,

I’m trying to diagnose a power fault on our Jetson nano. It powers on, the nvidia logo is shown for a second or so, then it powers off (led light is off) after about 9-10s. I’ve tried various power supplies (we are powering it via USB-C). All the same result. At one point I was able to get it to boot successfully but now it has gone back to powering on/off after 10s. While I was logged in I did note a number of soctherm: OC ALARM 0x00000001 even though the voltage was +5.5V. I’ve reflashed the device a number of times. I’m able to get it to sustain power when running under recovery mode. Any input/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have other devices available for testing?
Are you sure all these power supplies work stabliy at 5V@4A?

We do have other Jetsons. Some work fine, others exhibit the same on/off behaviour. It would be great to pinpoint what’s happening.

Yes, we use a regulated power supply, so I’m quite confident that isn’t the problem. It works fine with the other Jetsons. I understand the Jetson is sensitive to voltage fluctuations.

Then that sounds like a hardware failure, if only parts of them are failing.

Thank you for your input, I’m tending toward the same conclusion. Is there any way to confirm this? Seems odd to have so many failures. Anything I could measure on the board to check for hardware failure?

Are you testing on devkit or custom board? The overcurrent alarm generally comes from heavy workload. You can use a DC supply which can show output current to check if power consumption is too much.

Noted. We are using the devkit - amperage is around 1.2-1.4A at 5V, so it’s not even 10W.

Do you have any booting log to provide?

Can you please try switching to a DC jack?
Maybe the USB-C cable you use is not stable, so it cannot reach 5V sometimes.

I would if I could…but I don’t understand how that would be possible - please see attached image. There is no DC jack input on the board

If it’s a custom carrier board, then please ask the vendor who made this.
If it’s a DevKit, both A02 and B01 variants come with a DC jack.
