Nividia GPU suddenly went off on Ubuntu 20.4

I recently got an “Asus ROG Strix G15 (2020) Core i7” with “4 GB Graphics/NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 Ti”. I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 and everything was working fine for two weeks, and I had been using a second monitor. Then suddenly it seems that my GPU went off. When I right-click on any application previously, I used to get an option “Launch using dedicated graphics card” - it is no longer available. Also, my second monitor is not working.

Looks like this happened during a kernel update. Please post the output of
dkms status
and check if the driver got blacklisted:

  • run
sudo prime-select nvidia
  • run
grep nvidia /etc/modprobe.d/* /lib/modprobe.d/*

to find a file containing

blacklist nvidia

and remove it,
then run

sudo update-initramfs -u

and reboot.
