No display on the monitor

Hello,

Just bought my NVIDIA oring nano dev kit, flashed the Linux OS, connect it to a monitor, USB and Keyboard. Turned it on, but nothing is showing up on the monitor. It’s a philips monitor with HDMI connection.

Any hint on troubleshooting?

Would it be possible for you to connect to the board’s UART port so we can see the boot logs ?

Also, would it be possible for you to connect the board via USB to your PC and provide us with the output of the following commands:

That is interesting, seems like the board is up and running.
It also seems like the board was able to set the OTG connection up through USB.

Can you try connection to the board via ssh ?

In linux it should look something like:

ssh <username>@192.168.55.1

Where did you get the Linux OS that you flashed on the board and how did you flash it?

Did you use NVIDIA SDK Manager ?

I used exactly these setup instructions:
Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit Getting Started | NVIDIA Developer

Then, I installed JetPack 6 using the SD card method (not using the SDK manager, because it seems that the SDK manager exists only for Linux).

Ok, so the trick was that I should install the Jetpack 5.1 so that the firmware can update from 3 to 5.
A couple of reboots with this Jetpack 5.1 flashed, and I could see the progress of the firmware update of the serial console.

My question now is: what if I want to continue the setup without a monitor? I was able to ping the hardware (after connecting it through mini-USB to USB on my windows PC side) but not sure how can I SSH into it. What would be the username?

Thanks for sharing the trick !

If you want to connect without a monitor, you can use ssh with the same credentials that you use using keyboard and monitor. For instance, lets say that both your user and password are nvidia, then you can ssh into the board with the following command:

ssh nvidia@<IP ADDRESS>

Then you can use nvidia as a password.

If you have your board connected via USB to your PC, you could use OTGs OP address which is 192.168.55.1.

Actually I never set a username and password for this device. Ssh using the username “nvidia” does not work.

If you are able to now use the board with a monitor and a keyboard.

Could you please provide me with the output of the following commands?

  1. whoami
  2. ifconfig

Just run them on a terminal inside the board.
