Nvidia DGX with Ubuntu 18.04: no driver found

Nvidia DGX station with Ubuntu 18.04
Linux standard-DGX-Station 4.15.0-179-generic #188-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 10 20:45:52 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The pc doesn’t recognize any driver not Nvidia, neither others.

In case I write in the terminal: nvidia-smi this is the output

Command ‘nvidia-smi’ not found, but can be installed with:

sudo apt install nvidia-340
sudo apt install nvidia-utils-390

If I proceed with the installations there is a big problem: during the restart of the pc the system remains in pending and never enters inside the user’s section. So there is no way to install driver and I am not able to use the GPU anymore.

How could I resolve?

Hi @anna.boschi1 ,

This looks like an excellent question to raise with NVIDIA Enterprise Support. You can find their contact info in this post: About the DGX User Forum / Note: this is not NVIDIA Enterprise Support

It’s interesting that you are in the state that you are though. My immediate recommendation would be to backup any data you have, and do a fresh install of DGX OS 5.x (currently 5.3), following the instructions at DGX OS 5 User Guide :: DGX Systems Documentation . DGX OS 4.x is getting pretty old, and there are numerous improvements in the newer DGX OS version (including significantly more modern drivers!).
