sglizer, you’re running a 5.0 kernel, there’s currently no compatible driver in the Ubuntu ppa/repo as you would need a v418 driver for that.

Thanks, how stupid of me don’t check the compatibilities for new kernel. I have installed new drivers from: https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/142958/en-us. Everything works now. Pre-check script failed but it’s happens a lot, continue anyway.

prime-select nvidia

It works for me to reback to Nvidia drive.Thanks.

We’re having a similar problem with ONLY the gui; everything works and installs. We are running 18.04 HWE, on a SuperMicro H11DSi mobo, with two RTX TITANs (nlink) and we’re using the ASPEED vga output. The GPUs are for working and not for video. CUDA is installed as per the nVIDIA guide. CUDA works, drivers seem to load fine, but nvidia-settings seems to be broken.

We sometimes get the <g_is_object (object)’ failed> response when attempting to run nvidia-settings from terminal.

andorjkiss, stop spamming everybodies inboxes.
nvidia-settings is only for graphics settings, it needs an Xserver running on an Nvidia GPU. Your Xserver is running on the ASPEED, so nvidia-settings will fail. No bug, expected.
No graphics on nvidia gpu = no graphics settings = no nvidia-settings.

Hello !

Upgrading from Ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10,

Hi Everybody !

I modified my post #27 : https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1032882/linux/nvidia-settings-error-unable-to-load-info-from-any-available-system/post/5407368/#5407368

Thank you generix for your tips,
i added nvidia bug report file,
i am still waiting for a solution.

You’re running a 4.15 kernel that was compiled with gcc 7.4, yet your current system compiler is gcc 9. Since you’re running ubuntu 19.10, the standard kernel should be 5.3. Please switch to the current kernel in grub.

Hi generix !

I followed your advice but unfortunately dual boot doesn’t work !

After switching kernels, your system was working. Then you chose to add a config file defining a server layout section. According to the logs, this is still active. Please remove that config file.

But still no dual monitors, however when rebooting few seconds both monitors work !
Generix what file exactly to delete ?
I spend a lot time, please help me before a knockout with my wife !
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (396 KB)

According to the logs, the file is gone and the nvidia gpu is properly working now, also confirmed by nvidia-settings now working. System looks good, don’t fiddle with it.
Thing is, the nvidia gpu in your notebook does not have any outputs, all external outputs are connected to the intel igpu. So external monitors should work regardless of the nvidia gpu working or not.
All external connectors are in state ‘disconnected’ though. What kind of monitor (brand/model) did you connect? Which connection (DP/HDMI) do you use? Does the notebook have more than one external connector?

Laptop:

Monitor:

Connection:

  • I use HDMI 2.0 cable
  • No thunderbold cable

Looks like despite the nvidia gpu being a “3D controller” Dell hooked up the hdmi port to it.
Please try this:

See you soon or maybe not !

I too had the same issue.

I solved it by disabling Secure boot.

Then it was working for me.

Hi,

I am getting similar error

ERROR: NVIDIA driver is not loaded

ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system

Kindly help me. Stuck since long. Attaching my bug reportnvidia-bug-report.log (874.2 KB)

You booted into an older kernel left from Ubuntu 18.04 which was compiled with gcc 7.4.0, with 20.04, gcc is now v9.2 so the driver doesn’t compile. Please boot to the correct kernel using grub menu.
