NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Hi Everyone

Just randomly my nvidia driver broke. I am using VNC on my pc because it is at an remote location. A couple days ago it was running fine inside a VNC session with CUDA working. But now a couple days later it gives me this error inside the VNC session: “NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.”.

I use TigerVNC as VNC server.

probably want to reinstall the NVIDIA driver. On linux, if you have things like automatic updates enabled, and depending on how you installed the driver, its possible for the driver install to break.

I’m not sure that’s the case, but evidently your driver install is broken and the solution would be to reinstall it.
