OpenGL - render timing jitter makes animation jerky

I hope this kind of `crossposting’ is allowed - I just this nvidia forum later and think some people here may be helpful to answer my question:

gave very valuable hints to improve/reduce/eliminate the jitter to a minimum.

Key seems to be: a lightweight desktop, such as lubuntu (I used ubuntu/gnome-shell initially) and the kernel option ‘idle=poll’
