OpenGL uint8 vectors

Hello. Why for OpenGL by Nvidia none instructions which can be used uint8 (vector) instructions? For example, u8vec4, u16vec2, etc.

Would be good extended version of this OpenGL extension, where adds new CUDA operations. For example, packing of four uint8 to uint32, and reverse (usable with texturing). And extended atomic instruction set (as in CUDA).
