Hi, Our new carrier board fails to boot after flashing the system and the network does not work.We don’t know where the problem is.Could anyone help us to find the problem?

I can’t answer it all, but a lot of what I see going on there is from the HDMI failing EDID (this is an i2c protocol on the DDC wire). Have you updated your device tree to handle the HDMI side (including the power bus for the i2c controller going to the DDC wire)?

There is no HDMI connector in my new carrier board. Because I don’t need the video & audio output. I haven’t update the device tree.I just use the original system of TX2 development board. Now I would like to rebuild the kernel and cut the HDMI driver,Would that be ok?Or is there anything I need to do about the kernel?

Someone else will need to answer how to disable that, but basically it is probably just a device tree change. Apparently the system is still trying to do i2c queries for non-existent hardware and can’t get past this. More importantly, I don’t know what other side effects there might be since most likely you will still need an X server (though it could be virtual instead of real hardware) for the GPU driver to load into.

For the display, you could try to disable nvdisplay@15xxxxx in your device tree.

Hello,Linuxdev and WayneWWW. I met a new problem when I tried to update the device tree. I compiled the device tree with the source.(version :R32.1).And then I replaced the contents of Linux_for_Tegra/kernel/dtb/ with the contents of:$TEGRA_KERNEL_OUT/arch/arm64/boot/dts/. After I flashed the dtb,the kernel still failed to boot.The kernel failed at a new point and continued to reboot.It failed at the same point again and again.

Even I just replaced " tegra186-quill-p3310-c03-00-base.dtb",the result is the same.

I use " sudo ./flash.sh -r -k kernel-dtb jetson-tx2 mmcblk0p1 " to flash the dtb.

As you can see,it failed at :

Everytime when it runs here, it will reboot in a few seconds.Again and again. Now I want to try to flash the dtb in the development board in order to check if the source code is right.

I couldn’t say what to disable, but it looks like it is now failing on the text-mode console. The 8250 UART disable is ok, this is serial console. When the log reaches this line it is giving the arguments passed to the kernel:

In particular, look at this part of that line:

console=ttyS0,115200n8 console=tty0

The console parameter to the kernel allows two consoles. The ttyS0 is the UART serial console, but this disabled without issue (perhaps you want a UART debugger though, don’t know). The regular console which wants a framebuffer and a real monitor is the “console=tty0” part. You could remove the “console=tty0” from the kernel command line parameters.

In earlier releases this would have been strictly from extlinux.conf’s “APPEND” line, and to some extent this may still occur. These days most of this is done in the device tree’s “chosen” node. extlinux.conf is available only for software which can read ext4 filesystems, and nowadays some of this is needed in earlier stages and so it became a signed binary partition. You’ve already had some experience with this, so take what you’ve done so far, look for the “chosen” node, and modify the “bootargs” of that node. Simply remove the “console=tty0” if you have no possibility of an HDMI PHY/HDMI hardware. See if it then gets further.

On the other hand, if you do plan on a text mode console, then some other method may be needed.

This problem has been resolved.At first,I’d like to say sorry.In my previous comments,I said “I compiled the device tree with the source code.(version :R32.1)”.Actually,I compiled the latset release.I thought its version was R32.1.In fact,its version is R32.2.1. Then I used Jetpack 4.2 to flash the dts.The probelm arised. The reason why it didn’t work might be that the version of dts did not match. Our new board didn’t use the latest release.It used the release R32.1. Now. after I downloaded the right source code of release R32.1 and compiled the code ,the probelm didn’t arise again. But it failed at previous problem that caused by HDMI. That meant the source code was right.

Due to the previous problem happened again,I followed WayneWWW’s suggestion at #5.

I disabled the nvdisplay@15210000 in device tree.(nvdisplay@15200000 and nvdisplay@15220000 have been disabled in previous device tree.).Then I flashed the dtb.The new board could boot successfully now.
