I am on Arch, having the same issue. However, the workaround is not working for me.
Neither do I have the “kernel read not supported” errors in my journal, nor does reading the config make my card going to sleep :(

what is your card and what cpu, also you have to have options nvidia "NVreg_DynamicPowerManagement=0x02"
I have to correct my statement.
It seems to work for me now (after updating and rebooting the system), however I doubt that this was the reason. Currently my impression is, that I am only getting the “kernel read not supported” messages after suspending the system once. But yet to be verified.
I have all recommended udev-rules and kernel module parameters set up, yes!
