PGI 6.1, GAMESS, Opteron, and Suse10

I recently installed PGI workstation 6.1 and followed the directions on the PGI GAMESS page for tuning the GAMESS compile scripts for PGI 6.0 and amd-64. I copyed the PGI BLAS library to where the GAMESS lked script wanted it and compile completed. I ended up with the two exectuables ddikick.x and gamess.00.x that I was supposed to have.

BUT I got lost of errors with the runall test so just focused on exam01. The job gets to printing moments of inertia then dies with a segmentation fault. Output is below:

willsd@freesun:/usr/local/apps/gamess/gamess> ./rungms exam01

Has anyone built a working GAMESS on suse 10 with PGI 6.1 on an opteron box? Is this combination of hardware/software too new to have been tested? Anyone know how to diagnose this error and fix it?

I can supply other information (contents of .bashrc…) if needed…

Thanks,
Steve Williams

Hi Steve,

Mat did our 6.1 GAMESS testing and he is on the road this week. He will get back to you once he returns.

  • Brent

Hi Steve,

As Brent posted, I am out of the office this week but will take a look when I get back next week. I have thoughly tested the 6.1 compiler with Gamess but did not see the problem you reported. Granted, I was using the June 2005 version of Gamess on SuSE 9.3. I’ll try again as see what I can find.

  • Mat

Hi Steve,

I successfully built and ran the November 22, 2004 version of Gamess on a SuSE 10 system using the 6.1 compilers. I followed the directions posted on the “Tips & Techniques” page. As you noted, you need to change the lked script to have LIBRARIES set to “-lacml” instead of having it in the LDOPTS.

Could you please try again to see if you might have missed something? Also, be sure that you were following the 64-bit guide since using the 32-bit guide with the 64-bit compilers will lead to the segmentation violation you encountered.

Thanks,
Mat
