Powering up & connecting to Jetson Nano without the micro-USB connection to a host PC

Hi,
I’d like to power up and connect to my jetson nano through wifi & laptop.
I have setup the jetpack, attached a wifi dongle, set it up and verified the wifi connection.
I have also set up a Vino server and can connect to my Jetson screen through my laptop (Mac OS). I can also ssh to my jetson without problem

But somehow I still need to connect the micro-usb port to my laptop by cable. If I unplug it, the jetson shuts down.

Surely there is a way to not to hardwire my laptop to the jetson to be able to use remote connection?

But somehow I still need to connect the micro-usb port to my laptop by cable. If I unplug it, the jetson shuts down.

Why it sounds like the power source is from the micro usb? Do you have the power jack connected and also the jumper to the correct pin? We have a jumper to switch the power source between the micro usb and power jack.

Hi WayneWWW,

Thanks for your reply

Yes, I have verified the connections. I’ve also found some information on the forums: it seems that when the voltage is below 5V, powering the device through the barrel jack does not work.

I suspect this is my case since my apartment has this kind of voltage dilution problem.
Should I purchase another (more powerful) adaptor perhaps?

I do not have equipment to measure the voltage though.

Just want to confirm, if you don’t connect the jetson nano to the host pc at all, will it boot up with your power jack alone?

It won’t.
I just tried to boot it up (power jack alone) and tried to ssh to it: host is down.
(when I use micro-usb to power it up, it all works).

Will the board boot up if you connect only the micro usb to the host PC and without power jack?
I guess it should not, but still want to confirm.

It does!
It boots up and I’m able to ssh into it and to work with it. At this very moment, it is only connected to my laptop through micro-usb (and my laptop is not even connected to the power).

Are you sure the j48 pin has a jumper on it? Your power source is still from the J28 micro usb connector but not the J25 power jack. This was what I tired to say in previous comment.
