Prime-run loses ability to launch without hooking into Xorg after 535

Previously on 535, prime-run was able to run without a NVIDIA-G0 provider as detailed in Chapter 35. PRIME Render Offload.
This was achieved by removing a xorg conf file that comes with nvidia-utils.

Section "OutputClass"
    Identifier "nvidia"
    MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia/xorg"
    ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"

This was desirable because nvidia-smi did not have xorg as a connected process, allowing the nvidia drivers to unloaded. This allowed a gpu passthrough to windows without logging out of the session.

After 545, this no longer works, prime-run needs the above file to work. My findings are detailed here: prime-run broken after 535 / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

I brought it here per the recommendation of the forums, in hopes that some developer could shed some light on the situation, even if a workaround might be too much ask for, I’m curious to understand a bit more about how the driver worked (before/after).
