Problem with driver 455.45 in Kubuntu when starting with hdmi external monitor

In a laptop ASUS N552VW with a gtx 960M all works well with Kubuntu 20.10 and 455.45 driver. The Kubuntu OS starts normally, and connecting an external monitor with hdmi it is detected correctly, but when the system is rebooted with external hdmi monitor the graphical login is not showed.

I think with more details someone could help me, as I had tell when the system start without the external hdmi monitor all look fine:

So, with the system in the previous situation, when I reboot the system the situation is the follow:
First of all during the startup the grub menu is shown only on the external hdmi monitor, instead the laptop monitor seems disabled.
After selected the usual one voice in the grub menu, the “kubuntu” log is shown for a couple of second so the exenal monitor enters in the standby mode, now the only possibility to interct with the system is using “ctrl+F2” for a terminal console, and in this situation I gave the command

nvidia-bug-report.sh

Changing from prime-select nvidia to prime-select intel after the reboot, the laptop monitor seems always disabled, but now on the hdmi external monitor login after “kubuntu” logo is shown.

can you enable it in kde control center?

On the kde Display Configuration the monitor results enabled:

There seems to be something wrong with either the intel gpu or its i915 driver. Please check for a bios update.

The laptop a n552vw-fi057t has the latest version of bios (2019)

Did this previously work at any time, e.g. with an earlier kernel/Ubuntu install?

Sorry for delay, I have used for the first time an external monitor connected with HDMI with ubuntu 18.10 and the problem was present. It was the presence of this problem to made me upgrade the ubuntu ad 20.10 with the hope the problem was solved.

No errors visible. Are the bios post messages displayed, or is the internal display always dead once an external monitor is connected on boot?

Yes, Already during the post phase the internal monitor is dead and no message is displayed, the only way to use the internal and external monitor at same time is to disconnected the external monitor before the boot or select Windows OS in the grub menu

It’s a bios bug then, not fixable if no newer bios updates are released. Does the same happen if you connect it to the displayport connector?

I don’t know, there is only a mini-display port I can try to use that, but first I need to buy a mini-display to hdmi cable.

All works well with a new mini-diplayport to hdmi cable, the problem was the hdmi port.
