Programming in OpenGL (Advice Needed)

Hello fellow Nvidiar’s(?),

I am hoping to learn more and program some in OpenGL, as well as venture into ES 2.0 and 3.0. The only issue which I am having, is finding some decent websites and literature to help increase my knowledge of the subject.

I have already learned a little and read some via youtube(standford videos), AppleU, Udemy, Nehe and other materials.

Anyways, I had a few questions which I would like your help with…

  1. What are some good websites/books to read for further depth in OpenGL?

  2. What Language is best for programming in OpenGL? (Both Mac and PC)

  3. What is a decent program(s) to use for developing in OpenGL? (I have heard Visual C++ 2010-12)

  4. Anything else you would like to add?

  1. Nehe Tutorials and OpenGL Super Bible (currently 5th edition as far as I remember).
  2. It is good to know both C and C++, as they be native languages for most of the systems there are.
  3. Visual Studio is indeed good, while on Linux/Unix one can use Eclipse with C/C++ support (e.g. Nsight Eclipse).
  4. One need lots of patience and persistance, for OpenGL is a HUGE thing :)
