QSFP Interface DPDK and DOCA GPUNetIO support?

Hello,

I’m currently researching the capabilities of the new Jetson and was wondering if the QSFP interface will support in DPDK or GPUDirect I/O?

Specifically I’m interested whether Holoscan’s Advanced Network Operator will be supported on this Jetson.

Also: Is it going to be possible to configure the interface as a single 100 GbE connection?

BR,
Michael

Maybe check the detail information from below link.

Thanks for the reply.
I am aware of the link, but it seems to not have been updated with information relevant to the Thor generation.

Especially this sentence in the further documentation:

Holoscan Sensor Bridge software can be run on any system that is supported by NVIDIA Holoscan. For the best performance, an IGX system, using ConnectX SmartNICs are recommended. In systems without ConnectX NICs, such as the Jetson AGX Orin, performance is limited by the host OS network stack.

Is the AGX Thor a system without a ConnectX NIC?

Looking forward to information on that.

Thor have 1x QSFP28 (4x 25 GbE) for connectX NIC.

@michael.fritzenwallner I think you might be looking for the same information as I was:

I have some additional links in there that sparsely provide more information about Thor capabilities and they confirmed there won’t be a ConnectX NIC needed for HSB

Thanks! Yes, it seems we’re looking for the same information.

And yes you can use HSB without any special NIC, they are just standard UDP packets after all. It just helps to have a NIC supported by DPDK to bypass the kernel.

I guess the AGX Thor won’t have that, since it’s not explicitely stated anywhere - unlike the DGX Spark, where the connectx7 nic is prominently mentioned in all marketing material.

Hey @michael.fritzenwallner

Yes hence I referred to the links in my own post: https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-holoscan-sensor-bridge-empowers-developers-with-real-time-data-processing/

Holoscan Sensor Bridge on Jetson AGX Orin can also be used with SW ISP or CUDA ISP, similar to the IGX pipeline. In the case of NVIDIA Jetson Thor, camera over Ethernet is used in the pipeline instead of NVIDIA ConnectX.

Hence it seemed to me as well that in the case of Thor the direct to memory functionality provided by the NIC would instead be embedded directly on the module, they do mention camera over ethernet as being a direct replacement for the NIC.

Though I agree it’s all a bit vague as here they call it camera over ethernet but it seems to actually be proper HSB so I still hope we get some proper documentation soon because for us that’s a very exciting feature.

Now that Jetson Thor has been out….is it confirmed that the QSFP has Connect-X and supports RDMA transfers from the NIC to the GPU? Before we make a purchase we have to make sure Thor supports our requirements. Thank you for the information.

It doesn’t look like it’s a connect-x nic. After further investigation, i’m not sure it has RDMA or GPUDirect support. I’m not seeing anything in the holoscan repo
