I have seen numerous requests for quad-precision since ~2004 in this forum, with the response being that there is no hardware support so it would be slow, therefore no support for it (and then no one in the weather community and likely others that require this widely adopted feature will license PGI).
IBM Power9 now has native 128-bit quad-precision support. Will PGI now look at implementing this function?
