Random freezes with NVIDIA Drivers on Linux

Hi!
So I have a GeForce 1050 Ti. I am running Debian 10 with Kernel 4.19.0-6-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.67-2+deb10u1.
This is a fresh installation of Debian, been working with Debian and NVIDIA cards for 10 years now…
My machine is quite old, but still works as it should, I have a Phenom II 1100T BE, 24G RAM and a 500GB SSD, so the machine is stable.

Thing is that I am having these constant (every 5~10 seconds) freezes and then everything resumes… All the GUI freezes, for about 1 or 2 seconds and then continues to work just fine.

This is driving me crazy… I’ve found a couple of tricks googling but nothing seems to help.

The driver version is the latest I found on Nvidia Drivers Page: 430.50.

Anything to try and put a stop on this behavior ? Need help! :D

If you need any other info, please let me know!

Thanks a lot!

Which DE are you using?

hey, What you mean by DE ?

DE=Desktop Environment, e.g. gnome, kde…

Oh sorry, didn’t get it.

I am using Cinnamon 3.8.8 in debian 10.1.

Maybe you have this issue:

generix,

I have just removed the applet and rebooted… I have to run to work, but will test when I get back and let you know.

Also, I think I am going to try to work with XFCE to see if it have the same issue…

Is there any other applet that you know if that could be causing this issues? I have just a few of them (net speed monitors, CPU temp, weather… etc).

Thanks!

Well generix, seems like you hit the nail… I just came back from work… machine was on all day long and so far I had no freezes…

In case I come across this issue again… I’ll post back.

Thanks a bunch for your help, this thing was driving me crazy for real.
