Request to Customize Pre-Flashed MAC ID on Orin NX SOM

Is it possible to change the pre-programmed MAC ID that comes with the Orin NX SOM?
Our client requires the SOM to use a custom MAC ID instead of the default one.

Could you please advise on the steps required to change the MAC ID in the Realtek PHY chip that is integrated within the Orin NX SOM?

Additionally, we would appreciate it if you could share the exact part number of the Realtek PHY used in the SOM.

Hi,

MAC address of Orin NX is fused inside of the realtek PHY. So nothing related to SOM.

Please refer to design guide document for the detail of Realtek PHY.

The Ethernet PHY part number is not mentioned or could not be identified in the suggested document. Could you please share the exact part number for our reference?
Additionally, as most Realtek Ethernet PHYs are OTP-based, we would like to know if an EEPROM has been considered in the SOM design to support MAC ID customization.
Kindly confirm whether it is actually possible to change the pre-flashed MAC ID in the PHY chip?

It is r8168.

We are not using EEPROM method for Orin Nano ethernet solution. So the only possible way to customize it is to get tool from Realtek and use it to update.

We believe there is a difference between the Ethernet PHY used in the Jetson Nano and the Jetson Orin NX SOM. Upon checking the top marking, we observed that it appears to be RTL8111.

Could you please recheck and confirm the exact Ethernet PHY part number used in the Jetson Orin NX SOM for our reference?

Looking forward to your confirmation.

Hi,

Yes, checked internally, Ethernet PHY on Jetson Orin Nano and Jetson Orin NX is same RTL8111.

Have you attempted changing the MAC ID from your end? Based on the product information of the suggested Realtek PHY chip, it appears to utilize OTP (One-Time Programmable) memory. This raises concerns about how a MAC ID change is feasible without the presence of an external EEPROM.

We are currently awaiting a response from Realtek for further clarity. In the meantime, if you have any additional information or insight regarding this, please share it with us.

No, we don’t have any plan to change MAC ID and how MAC address is read from for now.

Hi,

We’ve received an update from Realtek, and they’ve shared some guidance on how to proceed with changing the MAC address. We are trying with this process to change the MAC ID.

Thank you for your support and the helpful recommendations.
