I have both a 4070 ti and a 5070 ti. With the 4070 ti there are no issues and the performance is what is in par with the expected.
With the 5070 however, as soon as any application requires an alpha channel, the system becomes very laggy, unresponsive and only a reboot brings it back to “normal”.
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch an X11 or Wayland session (i3, xfce, Sway WM)
- Open a terminal window and run vkcube. For 30–40 seconds, the cube will spin normally, but then it will freeze. At that point, the whole system is unresponsive, and only a reboot will bring it back to “normal”.
The above can also be reproduced by enabling transparency on a GL terminal like “kitty”.
