RTX 5080 + Ubuntu 24.04: suddenly crash afer entering the system for several minutes

Hi,

Similar issue (as reported here) with RTX 5080 + Ubuntu 24.04 + Driver Version: 580.65.06 (open). lspic shows the device (5080), while nvidia-smi says no devices found. Here are some details below.

This issue happens every several days, which is very weird. I login the system and it happens after several minutes. The screen becomes black and the GPU fans fully run (in panic mode?) and the process Xorg takes 100% CPU. The Xorg process cannot be killed, and i have to press the power button and physically reboot the machine.

Hi @sway , thanks for reporting this issue.
Could you kindly help to take the bug report just after rebooting when you see the issue.
I think it is due to GPU falling off the bus, which could be caused due to loose connections, PSU related issues, or driver related issues.

Thank you, @vanditd . I switched the PCIe slot from 2 to 4, which solved the issue. It seems this issue is not driver related. I guess it was caused by the old motherboard of my Dell T5820.
