RTX3070 Laptop GPU on Ubuntu 21.04 freezes after NVIDIA driver update to 465 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H

Ubuntu started to freeze when external monitor is connected. It happened after update to nvidia-driver-465 and also the same behaviour on nvidia-driver-460.

When starting Ubuntu without connected monitor it works good but when i’m connecting it, the screen freezes and only cursor is available, even can’t get a terminal opened. Also when starting with connected monitor it shows the black screens only.

Found something in kern.log that could help

Seeing the same issue on my desktop machine –
Driver: nvidia-driver-460 version 460.80-0ubuntu0.20.04.1
OS: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 3950x
Graphics: Geforce RTX 2080 Ti

Installing the latest nvidia-driver-460-server package (460.73.01-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) resolved the issue for me.

Same thing here, 460-server solved it for me too.
The normal nvidia driver was freezing or crashing from 20.04 LTS up to 21.04 ubuntu version.

Thanks mate you are a life saver! 460.73 worked for me as well.

Thank you guys, like a temporary solution I’ve rolled back my nvidia driver to 460.73 then.
Yesterday tried to update to 470.57.02 and it worked, but today i realized that these drivers just switched off or something like that (and i didn’t manage to switch them on), so i decided to install them via running ubuntu-drivers autoinstall and now all is perfect but in NVIDIA (Performance Mode) PRIME profile only.
