I’ve upgraded my system from an old Intel H97/3570 to an AMD AsrockB450/3600 combo.
Now I get serious 2D performance issues like extremely stuttering Youtube videos and abysmal scrolling with Firefox, or in a simple text editor like notepadqq. Youtube videos even freeze the system for several seconds, when I try to close the browser. Chromium has no scrolling issues(I think it is due to 3D acceleration there), but Youtube videos still stutter with it.
When I swap my 2060S card back into the Intel system, the issue is gone.
Both system run up-to-date Arch Linux installations and re-installing the AMD system didn’t help either.
Could this be BIOS related? Does anybody know a setting that could help?
Please read the pinned post, titled “If you have a problem, PLEASE read this first”, and attach a bug report. The post explains the steps, and would make tracking the issue down much easier.
As for general tips:
Checking for updates to the UEFI is probably generally a good first step.
Next would be to see if you’ve got microcode updates for your new AMD system. (Not that I think that’d help, but it wouldn’t hurt to check.)
Thanks for the reply, I have attached a bug report to my original posting.
Bios and microcode are already updated/loaded, so nothing more I can do here.
I checked what BIOS/UEFI settings could be the problem, but there are dozens of settings. I have no idea where to start. I’m currently on default settings, no overclocking.
I bought a cheap mainboard with A320 chipset from another manufacturer and the issue is gone.
I have no idea if this is a firmware/chipset/manufacturer issue.
I’m closing this issue since nobody had an idea what the actual problem is.
