I’ve just ordered the new 8gb Orin Nano Dev kit and I’m confused over the different tutorials on getting it to boot from NVME rather than micro SD. Is there an up to date guide on using the SDK for this? Most guidance is a year or so old.
If you are totally new to Jetson, I would suggest you just try sdkmanager.
This is the official tool to flash Jetson.
Do not read any random tutorial over the Internet. Just learn to use this tool first.
Ok great than you. Yes I was planning to use the SDK and I will download. That looks straightforward as I am not new to Ubuntu. The bit that I am not sure about is putting the Nano into recovery mode - does the jumper stay connected throughout the flash? and if you need the SD card in place if flashing an NVME?
You can choose either sdcard or NVMe here.
There is actually a QSPI NOR-flash on Jetson itself to install bootloader. It is this bootloader that decides whether boot from sdcard or NVMe. So even without sdcard, this board can still use other medium to boot.
Keep the jumper throughout the flash. Once the flash is done, remove the jumper.
If you would like to see the video guide with the official Nvidia SDK manager process for booting from SSD Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit, here is the video:
@mtcl thank you all good now on that front. Still having one or two other issues with seahorse etc crashes. See separate post. Looks like I am not alone with this so let’s hope there is a fix…
Alright! I’ve been running quite smoothly with it. It’s a beautiful little beast!
@paulknowler Pay attention to the version table below, because sdk manager supports maximum ubuntu 22.04 (I tried to use it with ubuntu 24 - unsuccessfully)
Yeah, living on the edge with Ubuntu LTS isn’t recommended, no pun intended! :)
I always stay one LTS version behind with my Ubuntu updates
To be honest, I would still keep using the 20.04, but curiousness and jetpack 6.0 didn’t let me enjoy my peace 🥲
