Struggling to enable NVIDIA Geforce rtx 3060 card on Linuix Mint 64-bit

Hi all,

I recently got an Omen laptop with a Geforce Rtx 3060 6gb graphics card, booted to the Linux Mint OS.

I’ve been struggling to get the card working. Currently all I have managed to get is the nvidia applet in the bottom right corner (attached).

However, the Nvidia X Server settings app still remains blank and other applications have reported it’s non presence.

I installed the Nvidia 490 driver using the device manager.

I have also been going over virtually every post related to this on here and other forums but it hasn’t worked for me.

I’d be grateful for any support

Thanks,
Salih

Please run nvidia-bug-report.sh as root and attach the resulting nvidia-bug-report.log.gz file to your post.

Right so I can’t run that command anymore as between then and now I managed to get the cards working such that in console mode it the nvidia-smi command reported everything wonderfully. downside is the desktop environment completes disappears.

only way I got it working was purging all nvidia drivers from my computer.

right, silly oversight. Kernel version needed to be upgraded to >= 5.11
