SUSE 10.4 64 bit GTX 680M graphics help and driver needed

We have a system the currently runs on old workstations that we are trying to bring up on new high end Intel I7 laptops with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M graphics. Unfortunately the systems runs under 64 bit SUSE Linux 10.4 that does not support the 680M by default. The NVIDIA website does have a new SUSE driver but it is only lists SUSE versions newer then version 11.

The system does not have net access at the moment either so I can not easily at least go out and just pull in new things.

Does anyone know if there is a driver I can get to work in 10.4 that will support the 680M? If such a driver does exist for such an old SUSE version any suggestions on the best way to install and get it working would also be helpful because I will probably have to do this the hard way.

The instructions for that file only appear to cover SUSE going back to 11.3. If people think that is my best option I can give it a try but was hoping someone might have some experience with 10.4. I do not need any new features so if there is an older version that is known to work with 10.4 it would probably be a better fir for me.

OK I did the install of the new driver with no reported errors but things are still not working correctly when I try to go to run level 5. Below is my Xorg.O.log with the errors. I am not at all sure what the real issue is. My first thought was that it was trying to use the onboard graphics instead of the invidia card but my attempts to change the oxorg.conf file have resulted in either making things worse or no change. If anyone has any suggestions on what needs to be done to oxorg.conf or other ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

You are using an Optimus-Setup, so you can’t easy use the nvidia driver.

Thanks. I had been unaware of the Optimus issues. Not sure what we will end up doing but at least I understand the issue now.

You can use bumblebee.
