Team Fortress 2 crashes with OOM after update to >=440.26

OS: OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
After updating the driver I noticed that during startup all CPU cores are utilized in 100%, whereas before during the startup only one core would be used. Memory usage rises dramatically fast before crashing, as TF2 is a 32bit process and can’t continue growing.
I’m on an Optimus laptop, and if I switch to the Intel iGPU the game launches fine.

I’ve found a related issue in the game’s bug tracker, it seems other users are affected the same way I am.

I can confirm it happened on my OpenSuSE 15.0 system immediately after updating to 440.26, continues on 440.31.

Just upgraded to 440.31 and can confirm same bug on Arch.
