There is no device (GeForce 8800)

Hi all,

I am trying to have CUDA working on the system that has NVIDIA GeForce 8800 (driver version: 1.0.9755), Fedora Core 6 (multi-arch based on x86_64).

Actually, this machine has two graphics hardware, one on-board and GF8800. The primary xserver runs on the on-board graphics hardware (DISPLAY=localhost:0.0) and the secondary on GF8800 (DISPLAY=localhost:1.0)

I’ve successfully installed CUDA and SDK, and comipled the sample projects without any problem. However, when I try to run those samples, I get this error message “There is no device”.

Of course, DISPLAY environment variable is set to “localhost:1.0”, and glxinfo shows me the correct output.

Have you installed the beta driver (97.51)?

It seems like you are using a different one:
OpenGL version string: 2.1.0 NVIDIA 97.55

My understanding was that, at the moment at least, CUDA will not run on x86_64, even in 32 bit mode.
