  1. Enable Preload to speed up load times (only for Desktop)
sudo apt-get install preload
sudo sed -i 's/sortstrategy = 3/sortstrategy = 0/g'  /etc/preload.conf
  1. Optimize mount rules (for eMMc)
sudo echo "/dev/mmcblk0p1 / ext4 defaults,noatime,nodiratime 0 0" > /etc/fstab
  1. Install Unity Tweak Tool
sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool
unity-tweak-tool

a) Unity -> Search

  • Disable option Background blur
  • Disable option Show "More Suggestions"
  • Dsiable option Show "Recently Used" applications

b) Unity -> Web Apps

  • Disable option Integration prompts

c) Window Manager -> General

  • Disable Window Animations
  • Switch to "Fast" texture quality

Good idea, especially because many Jetson TK1 users would be new to Linux. But I think it is better to put this info on a new Wiki page (such as http://elinux.org/Jetson/Tips) and merge it with the existing Recommended first steps now that your board has internet access section on the main Wiki page. So that the main Jetson TK1 Wiki page would say that after your board has internet access, you should look through the Tips page.
