TX Wait count on some ports on a Melamox MSN2410

Hello,

I am seeing some TX Wait counts and everything else is clean see image. I’ve read that it could be related to some congestion. This switch is full layer 2 only and has a NAS server attached with some editing workstations in 10gb.
NAS server 100gb port is also clean. Should I be concerned?

thank you,

Switch is Mellanox MSN2410 running MLNX-OS X86_64 3.6.1102

Hi Dany,

tx_wait means packet was encumbered/delayed, but not dropped, in the buffer due some circumstance preventing forwarding. Examples of when we see this:

*Multiple interfaces sending to single port. (Example 10G connected device and we have multiple 10G senders to that device.[ i.e. fan-in traffic].)
*Slow speed interface (100G to 25G port.)
*Slow reciever attached such as one that is sending pause frames. (PFC/LLFC).

Storage traffic I/O pattern can be random/unpredictable and “buffer greedy” so this isn’t too surprising. In itself tx_wait it isn’t too much to worry about and should be considered informational unless accompanied by actual peformance issues then you may need to consider implementing QoS.
