I tried to re-flash the system but was unable to enter the recovery mode.

Not sure, but it may be possible that your user doesn’t belong to video group, which is mandatory for running the GUI.

If not to late, you may try to add your user to video group, for example for user nvidia:

sudo usermod nvidia -a -G video

Hi,

  1. The only possible reason for “unable to enter recovery mode” is hardware issue.

  2. Your original error should not happen if you use rootfs from jetpack. What rootfs are you trying?

Hi,Honey_Patouceul

It works,I really appreciate your help!

Hi,WayneWWW,

TX2 can display desktop now.
But still unable to enter recovery mode.

Any clue please tell me,
Thanks!

Hi XavierSu,

What kind of problem do you have now? The device is already no response but host does not show lsusb?
Is it a custom carrier board?

Just to be sure about steps, recovery mode itself will not change the Jetson, and will only temporarily put it in a mode capable of flashing.

What @WayneWWW mentions from “lsusb” is from the host PC via the micro-B USB cable, and is an indicator that the Jetson is capable of being flashed (without flashing no actual change will take place, but failure to find the Jetson is either a USB failure or a Jetson failure). Most often, if you are not using a VM, something should show up for a TX2 via:
lsusb -d 0955:7c18

Any time you hold the recovery button down, and then either power up or hit power reset, and then let go of the recovery button, the unit should be in recovery mode. Treat the recovery button like a “shift key” to power on and power reset. Do not test this with a VM as VMs often have USB issues.

Hi,WayneWWW,linuxdev:

I am using Jetson TX2 Developer Kit.

The problem now is that TX2 can’t enter recovery mode:

I hold the recovery button down, and then power up. The device is already no response (it look like already in recovery mode), but host does not show 0955:7c18 NVidia Corp.using command lsusb.

My host is Ubuntu16.04 LTS in VMware.

I have replaced another TX2 to perform the same operation. It can enter recovery mode.

Thanks for reply!

HI,

Please reply the questions.

  1. Is it on a custom carrier board?

  2. I don’t get the exact meaning of “I have replaced another TX2 to perform the same operation.”.
Are you saying TX2 module + custom carrier board? TX2 module +NV devkit?

Please describe the detail. Thanks.

Recovery mode is just a pure hardware mechanism. It has nothing to do with the software you’ve installed.

Hi, WayneWWW,

  1. Not on a custom carrier board. I am Using the TX2 Developer Kit:
    20200521144319

  2. I replace another TX2 module in NV devkit.
    20200521144806

Thanks!

Hi XavierSu,

Such case may probably means that TX2 module is broken. Are you able to find a natvie ubuntu host and try again?
Honestly, we don’t support VM. For any VM host that can flash successfully, we could only say you are lucky.

Hi WayneWWW,

I will try that, thanks for reply.

This is due to the VM. It parent o/s is not passing it through to the VM. If you can fix that it might work, but it isn’t officially supported. Native Ubuntu tends to simplify development (just make sure it has plenty of spare disk space).
